A cash-strapped youth group has launched an appeal to prevent the roof of its building caving in.
Sheffield’s Double Six Youth Club is asking for help from members of the public to carry out the urgent replacement work.
The Woodseats club, which has occupied premises in Scarsdale Road since 1996, fears its entire budget will have to go into the work.
Volunteers have been forced to close off the back room of the building for safety reasons.
The popular space was previously a ‘chill-out area’ with a television and games console.
It is the latest blow for the club which has suffered swingeing cuts due to national and local government austerity measures over the past two years.
Youth workers have been forced to concentrate their efforts on fundraising.
They were thrown a lifeline when Sainsbury’s in Archer Road named the club as its charity of the year.
But mending the leaky roof would still mean fewer pennies are spent on providing around 100 Woodseats children with clubs and activities on a weekly basis.
Donations and offers of help with fundraising are being welcomed from former members and the wider community.
